Marketing is a very fast-developing field, so it is necessary to continuously analyse the data collected and adapt to current trends. Which topics were searched for worldwide last year and what interests users? You can read all of this in our article, where we selected the most interesting data from Google’s annual report.
Given today’s hectic times, the number of users visiting websites from mobile devices is growing; according to last year’s data it is almost 70% of users, but only 52% of websites offer fast loading, which can cause not only a potential customer to leave for a competitor, but the loading speed can also affect your position in search. What can you do to satisfy the customer and ensure they can move through your site easily? Make the visit as easy as possible for the user. Most mobile users are used to speed – switch off unnecessary pop-ups, registration requirements and other similar things. It is also important to adapt ads and pages to different mobile device resolutions. Besides this, it is necessary to follow current trends. In our opinion most young people do not like clicking various buttons, because it is something ordinary that they do in real life. Much more popular is the swipe method – the option to slide a finger across the screen, which leads to the given product or page. You can find such an option, for example, on Instagram Stories or in the Tinder app.
Which Categories Were Searched for Most Often and Which Features Were Used Most in 2019?
Let us start with Google in general, where image search grew by 60% and five times more time was spent on videos related to shopping. This data may show that people care more and more about the visual presentation and a practical demonstration of products. As already mentioned – today’s time is fast and people try to save as much time as possible, which is also shown by the data on voice search, used by 27% of users, and searches containing words such as “best”, “now”, “fast” and “near me”, which had an average increase of 150%.
An increase in online searches can be observed in many categories. Searches for groceries grew by almost 900% in 2019, despite the fact that you will find only a small fraction of all shops on the internet. Cars did not lag behind either: searches combined with the word “best” grew by half and the time spent watching car test videos almost doubled. A big rise in popularity is also seen for electric cars.
People are also more interested in themselves and their own development, which we can see in searches on how to handle money and financial literacy, which grew by 70%. Another hot topic is the relationship between parents and children. It is mainly parents’ fear that their children spend too much time on the computer and a lack of awareness among parents about what children do on the internet. Many people also customise their ads to their own taste – the Google page for personalised ads had almost two and a half billion visits in 2019. Do you want to look at your personalised ads?
The statistics make it clear that the internet is a rapidly developing medium – people spend more and more time on the internet and make more and more purchases there. For business owners this means bigger opportunities and higher profits. On the other hand, it generates more competition. Google provides only generalised worldwide data – the situation is different in every industry – it is good to have the situation analysed and decide accordingly.
